Inua Family Support
The Issue
Caregivers in extreme poverty often struggle to meet the basic needs of their families, including healthcare, nutrition, and education for their children. Without stable income or economic empowerment, their ability to provide consistent care is severely limited. Many lack skills, access to markets, and financial literacy, perpetuating cycles of poverty and dependency.
The Response
Inua Family Support addresses this issue by forming small, supportive peer groups made up of the most economically vulnerable caregivers in a community. These Family Care Groups provide a platform for mutual support, health education, and practical skills training in income-generating activities such as soap making, backyard farming, book making, and paper crafts. The program also provides seed capital and market linkage support, along with financial literacy training, enabling participants to start and grow sustainable micro-businesses.
Objectives
Empower Caregivers Economically: Equip vulnerable caregivers with practical income-generating skills and start-up capital.
Foster Peer Support: Build strong community-based support networks that encourage learning, collaboration, and resilience.
Promote Financial Literacy: Teach participants how to budget, save, and reinvest income wisely.
Improve Family Wellbeing: Enable caregivers to provide better health, nutrition, and education for their children.
Sustain Long-Term Impact: Create pathways to financial independence and self-sufficiency.
Methodology
Group Formation: Caregivers are enrolled into Family Care Groups based on location and similar needs.
Skills Training: Regular, hands-on workshops are conducted in crafts, farming, and other locally viable trades.
Seed Capital Grants: Each group receives initial funding to start joint or individual income-generating projects.
Market Linkages: Support is provided to help caregivers sell their products locally or in wider markets.
Financial Literacy Sessions: Tailored training covers budgeting, saving, managing profit, and reinvestment strategies.
Monitoring & Mentorship: Groups are mentored over time to ensure stability, business growth, and social cohesion.
